Surrealism: Dream Caused by a Bee Flight by Dali The painting that I have chosen for discussion is a prominent example of surrealistic style of visual art. Salvador Dali’s Dream Caused by a Bee Flight is one of the most famous Dali’s works (link provided at the end of document). The reasons why I have chosen this particular painting are the following. The details of every object are so precise, the colors are bright (and somehow very pleasant to look at), and the objects look very real. It I obvious that Salvador Dali has spent many years over this picture, because scrupulousness is vivid in any given spot of the picture. What is fascinating is that the viewer can see even the tiger’s grimace and muzzle expression. Another thing I admire is that every object depicted in the painting is right and real (except for the elephant maybe) separately. But when all these objects are put together exactly the way they are in the picture, the entire composition is literally insane; take a fish growing from pomegranate, which is in the process of vomiting a tiger, for example. Dali's Dream Caused by a Bee Flight is a classic example of surrealistic art movement. The typical characteristics are the braking of space, distortion of perspective, deceptive distances, and completely unreal theme and scene. Spider-legged elephant walking on the water (if it is water in the first place), heavy objects floating in the air, and many other things are absolutely unreal. To be more precise, the circumstances are unreal, but the majority objects themselves are real. Salvador Dali purposefully puts them in an unnatural correlation to create this feeling of another dimension or world. Picture Source 1. Salvador Dali. Dream Caused by a Bee Flight.
